Carrie

Carrie, 4.5 year old chocolate female, came to us from the PG County shelter where she had been a stray. As her adoptive home recently wrote to us:

carrie-sm.jpg "Her future looked grim, because she was an older dog. Usually people aren't as interested in adopting an older dog, so they are often the ones who are euthanized at shelters. When LRR noticed her cute face and personality, she was accepted into their program. Carrie was sent to several foster homes where she was evaluated and observed for behavior problems. Carrie passed all the tests and was ready for adoption when we started looking for a dog. LRR suggested that Carrie was the perfect dog for us, so we decided to look at her and few other foster dogs. LRR was right. Carrie was perfect for us. Her only problem was her fetching fetish. She was constantly wanting to play fetch, and every time anyone threw the ball for her, she would bring it back-nice and juicy! We switched her to a Frisbee to lower the "slobber factor." She is quite proficient at catching them in mid-air. We adopted Carrie in November, 1998. She has been a great pet. We call her "Carrie Camaro" because she makes a constant grunt/purr noise that sounds like an engine running. Her daily routine involves waking up with the first of us to arise each morning and demanding to be petted. After breakfast, she wants to play fetch, but is happy to accept more petting or anything else we might want to do. During mealtime, Carrie will try to mooch from us like the typical lab. In the afternoon, she's back to wanting to retrieve, and she can be very persuasive. If the youngest son is playing with his friends in the backyard, she has no trouble keeping up with whatever they are doing. After dinner, Carrie lies around and loves the tummy scratches we offer her. Even though she is well behaved, we are taking her to obedience. Since Carrie came to live with us, all of us have been very happy."
