Roxy/Misty

Roxy/Misty was one of the ten infamous "Celia's pups" that came to LRR from the Cecil County (MD) shelter in October, 1997 at two weeks old. (Read Mousse/Bailey's story below too.) When "Dad" discovered Celia was pregnant and about to deliver, he quickly abandoned her at the shelter where she promptly went into labor. While the shelter did their best to tend to these labs and lab/pointer newborns, they felt more comfortable for Mom and pups to go into a rescue and foster home. So, Roxy and her littermates became part of LRR where they grew into happy, silly little pups. All of the pups were chowhounds, but Roxy was always one of the more roly poly puppies. It was hard to resist that precious face! Roxy soon worked her magic on a family who wanted and was prepared for a young pup. Her name was changed to Misty and she soon began to join in family adventures as this recent email shares:

misty-sm.jpg Just wanted to give you an update on Misty. Misty was one of the puppies born Oct. 12, 1997. When we adopted her, she was a 35 pound, big-footed, clumsy puppy. Now she is a beautiful 92 pound rompin' stompin' fun loving dog. The white spot on her chest is still there and gives her a unique and distinctive look that we all love. For her birthday, we took her camping by the Prince William Forest. I am not sure if Misty wore out our two boys or if they wore her out, but everyone had a great time, and we can not wait to take her again. She likes walking in lakes and rivers, but has not quite gotten into swimming yet. We just keep giving her opportunities. Next summer we will all move to Kansas City. My wife's brother lives there and is looking for a place for us with a big fenced yard. As with our last Lab, we will take Misty with us and get a house that works for all of us. Should be a fun and exciting time for all of us. When we get there we may look into getting another dog (possibly a Yellow Lab or a Golden Retriever). I guess a big yard is a must! Misty has been a lot of fun. Of course, starting as a puppy she has also brought a lot of challenges. All in all we would not change a thing. Thanks again to LRR for getting us such a great dog.
