Jake/Spaulding
Jake/Spaulding was a "three time loser" at homes when he found his way to LRR. This lively little 13 month old black male was the typical silly, immature adolescent lab, but his history made him sound ominous. As it turns out, his previous owners had gotten him for wrong reasons, didn't know much about the lab breed, and/or probably weren't prepared or ready for a dog. He was first purchased because he was a cute little black fuzz ball puppy, but by 4 months little Haley (as his first parents called him) had outgrown the cuteness and the novelty of having a dog had worn off. Friends rescued him then for four more months until at 8 months, he was suddenly "too active and chewy", which, of course, is exactly how an 8 month old lab puppy behaves! Then, he was abandoned at the Humane Society of Baltimore County. He was finally adopted from there by a couple who thought they wanted a young lab. They did take him through basic obedience and changed his name to Jake. But, by the time he was 13 months old, the owners suddenly had no time for him. A trip back to the HSBC might have meant euthanasia, so with permission he came to LRR. Not surprisingly, this little guy did not have a lot of confidence, but he sure had a big heart. We promised him that this time we would find him a home who would love him forever. Fortunately for us, such a home came along in the form of a young couple who had spent a great deal of time preparing for a dog to enter their lives. No matter how vividly we painted a picture of life with a chewy, active young labby, they were ready. Still, we sent them to see a couple older, but active labs, but the spark just wasn't there...until they met Jake. He played with the husband, and then crashed in the wife's lap, which was exactly what they were looking for! The adoption was done, and as you can see from the email below, their lives have been changed:
