Community Outreach 2009
Did you know that LRR does more than rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for unwanted dogs? On this page you can find out more about just some of the things LRR is doing to help dogs throughout our community.
In addition to the below, LRR has donated to alumni on several occasions in 2009, including:
- Paying for amputation of a dog’s leg to prevent the spread of cancer
- Assistance for two families whose labs were living with cancer
- Assistance for a recently adopted lab who required overnight care at the emergency room
December 2009
LRR purchased a Wal-Mart gift card to help the Caroline County Humane Society assist the animals at their facility.
LRR also purchased a PetSmart gift card for a family who was in a serious car accident and is having physical and financial difficulties caring for their animals. They are long-time friends of LRR and labs.
LRR made a financial donation to a recently adopted LRR alumni, Midnight, who was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma. Midnight had surgery shortly before Christmas to remove the thyroid tumor.
November 2009
In continuing support for our veterans and wounded soldiers, LRR sent 50 training treat bait bags and 50 bags of Zukes treats to the Washington Humane Society for their “Dog Tags” program, helping wounded soldiers from Walter Reed Army Medical Center learn animal training, care, and welfare.
Dog Tags prepares wounded soldiers, recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, for a future career in the animal behavior industry through a 3 tier certificate level training curriculum. The soldiers come twice a week to their Behavior & Learning Center and learn skills that enable them to pursue either a hobby or a career working with animals, all-the-while, providing training, enrichment, and companionship for the WHS cats and dogs that are awaiting adoption. This program gives WHS an opportunity to give back to the injured men and women of the Armed Forces while creating healing relationships that benefit both humans and animals.
October 2009
LRR made a donation to the Loudoun County Department of Animal Care & Control’s Pet Pantry. The Pantry works year-round to assist low income families with pet care needs such as medical assistance, low cost spay/neuter surgery, and pet food.
LRR made a donation to Service Dogs of VA which provides service dogs to autistic children in the Northern Virginia area. LRR donated a year’s worth of Frontline for a dog and a monetary donation to purchase vests for the children and a dog.
LRR made a donation of numerous bags of dog food and other goods to Food Link, Maryland to help those families who are less fortunate.

LRR made a monetary donation to Karma Dogs to support their program on teaching children about dog safety. Karma dogs use coloring books in school to teach children important lessons about dogs such as: how to approach a dog, not to bother them while eating, and not to climb on a dog while playing.
Karma Dogs (primarily rescued dogs) and their owners help children become better readers, work with the disabled and teach children (and parents) how to be safe and responsible around dogs.
January 2009
In continuing support for our veterans and wounded soldiers, LRR donated a brand new LCD projector to the Dog Tags program at the DC Humane Society.
